Thrifty-Crafty Gift Basket Idea

Thrifty-Crafty Gift Basket

Cover up the old and turn it into something new!
Low Cost, No Sew, Great Gift Idea!

Thrifty-Crafty Gift Basket

*(if you don't have any of the materials needed for this project just lying around your house, you can purchase one at the dollar store, goodwill or deseret industries...or there's always great finds at garage sales!)

Materials Needed:

-Basket with handle
-Hot glue gun and glue sticks
-Material
*(enough to cover bottom of basket and some for the inside - used as a filler.
Tissue paper works can work as a filler as well)
-1 1/2 inch ribbon (grosgrain is best)
-A few random scraps of ribbon for wrapping around gift boxes
-2 or 3 gift boxes (if desired)

Instructions:

1. Take an old basket with a handle, and hot glue material all around the top part of the basket. (Hint: The Zebra Pattern)
*(leaving a 1" gap above it for the ribbon to go on after)

2. Tuck the two long edges of material underneath the basket and glue to bottom of basket. Then glue the two short sides down (tucking under the frayed/raw edges before gluing - it will give it a nicer finish)

3. Glue the ribbon to the inside edge of the handle first, then wrap around the basket handle as you glue along the way. Completely wrap handle of basket in ribbon.

4. Glue ribbon all along the top edge of the basket, making sure to cover/overlap the frayed edge of the material below it. Make sure to leave enough ribbon (on both ends) at the front of the basket so that you can tie a double knot or bow.

5. Tie the few random scraps of ribbon around gift boxes, leaving knots in a couple different places on the front of the box (if you have more than one ribbon you are going to tie on each box).

6. Fill up the basket with enough material to give padding so that the gift boxes stay up higher in the basket. )This creates the effect that you are giving a huge amount in a small basket :)

This was a gift basket I made for my sister a few years ago. I used her wedding colors as the theme for this basket. She had zebra, red and blue as her colors and her favorite color is neon green.

*(Hint: For wrapping the material underneath the basket - its the same idea as wrapping the edges of a present, just make it look clean and crisp)
